The graphs show the proportion of films released and the entire percentage of ticket sales between 1996 and 2006. Overall, most genres experienced a marked increase in their production and ticket sales, except for romance, which declined in popularity and remained unchanged in production.
Although drama was the most produced film, it was comedy that was most preferred by audiences, while the fantasy and romance were the lowest ones. Most genres exhibited a rise in the percentage of films released.
Among four genres, drama saw a significant growth from around 25% to roughly 35%. Both comedy and fantasy showed a marginal rise, with the former to 25% and the latter to 16%, from their initial values 20% and 11%. In contrast, the percentage of romance movies stayed unchanged, accounting for 5% over the period. The total ticket sales, however, were lower than their production. Even Though, comedy stood out as the most loved genre among four, at 20% in 1996, which was followed by a slight climb to 24% in 2000.
Fantasy saw a sharp increase from 2% to 7%, in contrast to drama, where the figure increased slightly, reaching 17%, up from initial 16%. Ticket sales falling from 5% to mere 2%, romance was the only category to record a drop.
